President Donald Trump spoke to reporters Wednesday morning during a visit to the South Lawn of the White House, where workers were preparing to install one of two new flagpoles funded personally by the president.
The installations, one on the North Lawn and the other on the South Lawn, were described by Trump as a gift to the country and part of a vision he has held for years.
“It is my Great Honor to announce that I will be putting up two beautiful Flag Poles on both sides of the White House, North and South Lawns. It is a GIFT from me of something which was always missing from this magnificent place,” Trump said in a statement issued Tuesday evening.
