Police in Belgium Foils Islamic Terrorist Plot Targeting Prime Minister Bart De Wever With Drone Attack
Terror comes to Antwerp.
Belgian federal authorities have arrested three young suspects in connection with an attempted Islamist terrorist attack on leading politicians, including Prime Minister Bart De Wever.
Police detained ‘three young adults’ in Antwerp yesterday (9).
They are held on charges of plotting a ‘jihadist-inspired’ attack using drone-mounted explosives, according to the federal prosecutor’s office.
The Brussels Times reported:
“Several ministers confirmed that Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever was one of the intended targets of the attack.
Federal Prosecutor Ann Fransen told a press conference that the arrests were carried out as part of an investigation into ‘attempted terrorist murder and participation in the activities of a terrorist group’.
‘There are indications that the intention was to carry out a jihadist-inspired attack targeting politicians’, she said.”
