New Poll Shows Vast Majority of Americans Support Trump’s Mass Deportations
by David Hawkins
A new national survey is dealing a significant blow to the Democratic Party’s messaging on immigration while reinforcing President Donald Trump’s long-held position on border enforcement and deportations.
The poll, released by Cygnal, finds broad public support for enforcing immigration law, deporting those in the country illegally, and allowing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to carry out its mission.
The results directly undercut years of media and Democrat claims that deportation is politically toxic or extreme.
According to the survey, 73 percent of voters say entering the United States without legal permission is breaking the law.
By nearly a two-to-one margin, 61 percent to 34 percent, voters support deporting individuals who are in the country illegally.
A majority, 54 percent, want ICE actively enforcing federal immigration law, while 58 percent oppose defunding the agency.
Those numbers cut across party lines. Independents and swing voters side far closer to Republicans than Democrats on nearly every immigration enforcement question.
The political consequences for Democrats become more severe when voters are informed that the party supports defunding ICE or shutting down the federal government to halt deportations.
Cygnal’s polling shows the generic congressional ballot shifts sharply under those conditions.
Democrats’ four-point advantage disappears entirely when voters learn Democrats oppose ICE enforcement.
If Democrats push for a government shutdown to defund ICE, Republicans gain a two-point national lead.
It marks a six-point swing away from Democrats.
