Tech Companies Scramble to Seize Control of Elections by Pumping Big Money into Pro-AI Candidates

by Frank Bergman

A new report is raising major concerns after revealing that powerful artificial intelligence companies are pouring millions of dollars into the 2026 midterm elections to boost pro-AI candidates across the country.

The spending blitz has triggered warnings that Big Tech is moving to shape the political landscape before lawmakers can impose serious restrictions on generative AI, data centers, and the rapidly expanding power of Silicon Valley.

According to reporting from the Los Angeles Times, political finance groups linked to major tech companies, including OpenAI and Anthropic, have already become some of the top spenders in the 2026 elections.

The groups have reportedly spent a combined $37 million on various campaigns, with that number expected to surge as November draws closer.

The figure only includes spending that is publicly known, while other tech-backed political action committees have been accused of evading federal reporting requirements.

AI Money Floods 2026 Races

The massive spending push comes as AI companies face trillions of dollars in potential profits, as well as growing public concern over the technology’s impact on jobs, energy infrastructure, privacy, and political speech.

Rather than simply backing traditionally pro-business Republicans, the AI-linked groups are spreading money across both parties.

However, according to an infographic from the Los Angeles Times, the spending heavily favors Democrats.

OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, is heavily linked to both the American Mission PAC and Think Big PAC.

American Mission PAC has donated $8 million to Republicans, while Think Big PAC has spent $14.1 million on Democrats so far.

Anthropic is linked to Jobs and Democracy PAC and Defending Our Values PAC.
