Far-Left 1619 Project Creator: America’s ‘Entire Existence’ Is a ‘Crime’

by David Lindfield

Far-left activist Nikole Hannah-Jones, creator of the New York Times’s controversial “1619 Project,” has declared that “the entire existence of the United States” is a “crime.”

She argues that the government is not paying slavery reparations because doing so would apparently be “an admission of the crime.”

Hannah-Jones made the comments during an interview with The Meteor about reparations and American history.

She argued that many Americans still refuse to confront the reality of slavery and pointed to recent fights over Juneteenth, the “1619 Project,” Marxist critical race theory, and restrictions on how history is taught in schools.

“Paying reparations is an admission of the crime,” Hannah-Jones said.

“But it’s not an admission of the crime of a handful of bad apples or a few years of bad policy.

“It is the crime of the entire existence of the United States.”

The comment captured the worldview behind the “1619 Project,” which recasts America’s founding through the lens of slavery and racism rather than liberty and constitutional self-government.

Hannah-Jones Says Slavery Cannot Be Separated from America

Hannah-Jones argued that slavery is so deeply embedded in American history that it cannot be symbolically removed.

She said any attempt to erase the legacy of slavery would require removing major monuments in Washington, D.C.

“And so you can have reconciliation when you don’t have to look every day at the people that you visited these crimes upon,” Hannah-Jones said.
