Vehicular Jihad in Germany, and Germans Vow to Combat ‘Islamophobia’

Another jihadi has struck in Germany, and German authorities are on the job: they’re determined to stamp out “Islamophobia.”
Still, let’s look on the bright side. You’d expect by now that Abdul Ballout, the Muslim who plowed his vehicle into Berlin’s LGBTQ+ parade on Saturday, killing one person and injuring at least 16 others, would have been declared “mentally ill.” As part of that effort, it wouldn’t have been in the least surprising if we had heard that Ballout, growing up in Germany as the son of Lebanese Muslim migrants, had been subject to racist and “Islamophobic” harassment, to the degree that it became sadly inevitable that the poor dear would lash out against his tormenters.
Instead, German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt admitted almost immediately that this was an “Islamist terror attack.” “Islamism” is a Western construct that corresponds to nothing whatsoever in Islamic theology; it is simply an attempt on the part of Westerners who are jittery about being accused of “bigotry” and “Islamophobia” to distance Islam from the crimes done in its name and in accord with its teachings.
Nevertheless, Dobrindt’s admission that this attack had something, at least, to do with Islam was a positive sign. Could European authorities finally be waking up to the threat that they’ve ignored and denied for so very long? Maybe. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz declared: “We will not allow this poison of terrorism to spread further in our society,” and that was tough talk indeed, but what are the chances that he will actually do anything effective to stop the “poison of terrorism” from spreading further in German society? Considering the fact that Merz wouldn’t even dare name the ideology that motivates and fuels that terrorism, the chances of that are just a few degrees south of nil.
And so what will the Germans do instead? Why, fight “Islamophobia,” of course. The organizers of the Gay Pride event that the jihadi hit, Christopher Street Day (CSD), made that clear, saying: “We don’t want this act to be exploited for political purposes or for people to be placed under general suspicion. Such violence is an attempt to divide our society and incite people against each other. We, as Berlin CSD, will not allow this.”
To be sure, the organizers of Christopher Street Day are not German government officials, but there is no doubt whatsoever that the people who populate the Merz government overwhelmingly feel the same way. They’re not going to allow this act to be “exploited for political purposes,” because if it does become a political issue, they will come out the losers, and the Alternative für Deutschland, the party that opposes mass Muslim migration, will form Germany’s next government.
