Nearly Every House Democrat Votes Against Condemning Socialism as Party Lurches Further Left

Nearly every House Democrat voted against condemning “socialism in all its forms” Tuesday night, handing Republicans a stunning recorded vote showing just how far left the Democratic Party has moved ahead of the crucial midterm elections.
The Republican-backed resolution passed the House 220-192, but only eight Democrats joined Republicans in voting to condemn socialism.
Every one of the 192 lawmakers who voted against the resolution was a Democrat, while another two Democrats voted present rather than take a position.
The White House immediately seized on the vote as further evidence that the Democratic Party is increasingly beholden to its radical socialist wing.
“Yet again, the Democrats prove how extreme their party has become,” White House spokeswoman Lauren Bis said in a statement.
“They support radical socialism, defunding federal law enforcement, and non-citizens voting in American elections.”
The vote represents a dramatic shift even from last year.
When the House considered a similar resolution condemning the “horrors of socialism” in November 2025, 86 Democrats voted in favor.
This time, that number collapsed to eight.
Socialists Tighten Their Grip on the Democratic Party
The extraordinary vote comes as the Democratic Socialists of America expands its influence across the Left and openly socialist figures become increasingly powerful within Democratic politics.
That leftward transformation is becoming impossible for Democrats to hide as voters prepare to decide control of Congress in November.
Several Democratic Senate nominees have already embraced positions that Republicans are certain to put before voters.
Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico has described capitalism as an “oppressive system” that must be “dismantled.”
Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed has sought to distance himself from the socialist label while repeatedly courting the party’s radical Left.
El-Sayed has even campaigned alongside socialist Twitch streamer Hasan Piker, who infamously declared that “America deserved 9/11” during a 2019 stream.
