DHS Chief Confirms Ilhan Omar Under Investigation for Immigration Fraud: ‘We Know She Married Her Brother’

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin has revealed that federal investigators are actively probing Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) over explosive allegations surrounding her immigration history, warning that “something’s going to happen.”
Mullin confirmed that authorities are examining longstanding allegations that Omar married Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, a man identified as the Democrat congresswoman’s biological brother, as part of an immigration scheme.
However, the federal investigation is apparently digging far deeper than the marriage controversy.
Mullin said Thursday that investigators are also examining the broader immigration history of Omar’s family for possible illegal activity, raising the prospect of serious consequences if federal authorities uncover evidence that immigration laws were broken.
“We know that she married her brother to try to bring him into the United States,” Mullin said.
The allegation that Omar married her brother has circulated for years but has never been publicly proven.
Omar has repeatedly denied that Elmi is her brother.
However, the marriage is reportedly an open secret in Omar’s Minnesota Somali community.
Federal Investigation Goes Beyond Marriage Allegation
Mullin made the comments during an appearance with conservative commentator Benny Johnson at the 2026 Republican Midterm Convention.
When Johnson asked what could happen as federal authorities investigate the allegations surrounding Omar, Mullin responded, “Something’s going to happen.”
The Homeland Security secretary then revealed that investigators are examining more than Omar’s marriage to Elmi.
“There may be more to this — the whole family migration and possibly some illegal activity for them to come to the United States to begin with,” Mullin said.
“But all of this, we’re investigating.”
Mullin emphasized that federal authorities would need evidence of wrongdoing before bringing a case against the Minnesota Democrat.
“If we actually move a case forward, it’s not a political case,” Mullin said.
