Capitol Police Surround Mitch McConnell’s Home

Questions surrounding Sen. Mitch McConnell’s lengthy absence intensified Monday after video showed U.S. Capitol Police vehicles stationed outside the Kentucky Republican’s Washington residence as the Senate returned to work without a confirmed appearance from the longtime senator.
Conservative commentator Nick Sortor posted video from outside McConnell’s home shortly after 1 p.m. Monday, showing at least one marked Capitol Police vehicle near the property. Sortor claimed officers had “encircled” the residence and pointed out that McConnell remained nowhere to be seen after senators returned to Washington.
The reason for the police presence was not immediately clear. Capitol Police protection around a sitting senator’s residence is not itself evidence of a new medical emergency, and security vehicles have reportedly been stationed near McConnell’s home previously.
Still, the scene comes as scrutiny over McConnell’s condition reaches a new level.
