Ursula von der Leyen Wants Canada as an EU Associate Member
By M Dowling
Mark Carney might become the EU’s first associate member. Ursula wants “to create a common prosperity and economic security space.” Carney is moving toward his fellow leftists. Carney wants to be less dependent on the US. He has also moved closer to China.
The EU would give Carney trade privileges. However, he’d have to agree to their rules to some degree. That could include massive immigration, contributing to a large budget, and limiting worker freedoms. Nations in the EU can’t sell a toaster that Brussels disapproves of. President Trump’s occasional silly comments, like calling Lake Ontario “Lake America,” make this palatable to Canadians. However, Carney doesn’t want to sign up for all the EU requirements. A nation must now agree to if it wants to dip into the EU free-trade purse.
Carney is a rigid believer in Climate Change extremism, and has wasted money they didn’t have to waste on the movement. He is no friend of Western Canada, whose wealth comes from fossil fuels. The West funds the East.
The EU is a dying entity, overrun by the Third World and tied up in their heavily regulated, taxed, anti-free speech culture.
The Wall Street Journal reported:
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Europe needed to tighten its cooperation with like-minded democracies, in particular Canada, to retain the continent’s sovereignty and tackle threats from what she called “an openly hostile world.”
The landmark speech at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France, signaled that the notoriously bureaucratic 27-member bloc, threatened by Russia to its east and an increasingly adversarial relationship with Washington, is rethinking its own limits.
Ideas under discussion include integrating supply chains in critical economic sectors, including defense; joint European and Canadian cloud and data centers; greater Canadian energy flows to Europe; and cooperation on artificial intelligence and digital rules. Carney has also confirmed discussions on certain types of mutual visa-free travel and work arrangements.
The rules will kill Canada.
Dear @MarkJCarney we want to bring the relationship with Canada to the highest level possible.
I would like to work with you on opening the door for Canada to being the first associate member of the EU.

Victor Davis Hanson makes a reasoned, fact-based argument for why this won’t work out for Canada. Canada wouldn’t even pay their 2% for defense to NATO, and yet it has no military to speak of. Who is going to defend them?
