France: Bedridden 93-Year-Old Marie-Louise Raped and Strangled In Her Home; Naked Sudanese Man Found On Her Body

A 93-year-old disabled woman was found dead inside her home after police discovered a naked 34-year-old Sudanese man at the scene, according to prosecutors.

The suspect, according to various reports, has been placed under formal investigation for murder preceded or followed by rape, adding another horrific case to France’s increasingly bitter fight over immigration, crime, and the authority of the state.

Marie-Louise, also known to neighbors as “Juliette,” had suffered a stroke and had been bedridden for months. Those who knew her called her “the little grandmother of the neighborhood” and described a vulnerable woman who depended on others simply to get through everyday life.

Her neighbors sounded the alarm Sunday afternoon after screams, insults, and the sounds of blows erupted from inside the house. Police found the front entrance locked, went around the back and encountered blood before reaching the bathroom, where Marie-Louise lay naked and motionless.

Officers found the suspect unclothed and apparently intoxicated, with some accounts saying he was asleep or dazed on top of the elderly woman. Prosecutors said he fought officers during the arrest and injured one of them; a later breath test registered 0.92 milligrams of alcohol per liter.

The autopsy revealed the scale of the violence investigators are examining. Toulouse prosecutor David Charmatz said examiners detected injuries suggestive of sexual violence, fractures to a rib and the spine, bruising to the face and neck trauma compatible with asphyxiation.

Authorities formally placed the Sudanese national under investigation for murder preceded or followed by rape and requested that he remain in pretrial detention. He remains presumed innocent unless convicted, while forensic and toxicological work continues.

The early reporting produced conflicting accounts of his status, a point that matters in a case already exploding into France’s migration debate. Some outlets initially described him as illegally in the country, while later reporting identified him as a Sudanese refugee with lawful status and no criminal record; the supplied reports do not conclusively resolve that discrepancy.

For France’s sovereigntist right, however, Toulouse comes amid a larger argument about what Marine Le Pen, Jordan Bardella and the National Rally describe as decades of failed migration and security policy. Their charge is not merely that individual deportation orders go unenforced, but that successive governments transferred too much control over borders and migration to bureaucratic, judicial and European structures while admitting immigration on a scale they say the French public never authorized.

The raw immigration numbers give that dispute political weight. France ended 2025 with nearly 4.5 million foreign nationals holding valid residence permits, representing 8.1% of the population counted in the Interior Ministry measure, while the country also registered more than 116,000 asylum applications that year.
