House Republican Warns CBDC Would Lead America to ‘Dystopian’ Future: ‘Communist Money’
by David Lindfield
Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) is drafting legislation to treat central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) as counterfeit money, warning that government-controlled programmable currency could give officials unprecedented power over Americans’ finances.
Davidson told Fox News Digital that a CBDC could allow authorities to freeze money or dictate how people spend it, describing the concept as “communist money for the digital age.”
“They could just freeze your money,” Davidson said.
“You could program it.
“Some people call it a feature.”
He outlined a hypothetical system in which a pickup truck driver pays $10 per gallon for fuel while a hybrid driver pays $2, illustrating how programmable money could be used to reward government-approved choices and penalize others.
“And people see this as a feature. I think it’s dystopian,” Davidson said.
“I definitely want to stop it,” Davidson added.
Proposed Bill Would Treat CBDC Development as Counterfeiting
Davidson described his proposed legislation in a September post on X, calling for criminal penalties extending from planning a CBDC to launching one.
“I’m drafting a bill to regulate Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) as counterfeit money,” Davidson wrote.
“Planning a CBDC? Conspiracy.
“Designing a CBDC? Same as designing counterfeit plates.
“Launching CBDC? Counterfeiting.
“Prison for counterfeiters and their accomplices. No CBDC!”
In another September post, he warned that programmable currency would place government permission between citizens and their own money.
