Ilhan Omar Accused of Leaking Classified Congressional Information to Somalia

by Frank Bergman

A former Somaliland government minister has accused Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) of abusing her position in Washington, D.C., to leak classified congressional information to Somali leaders, reviving explosive allegations about the congresswoman’s activities.

Ali Hassan Mohamed, Somaliland’s former information minister, says the Somalia-born congresswoman’s alleged action led to hundreds of deaths.

Mohamed originally published the accusation in 2024, but it has resurfaced as Omar is under federal investigation for immigration fraud and financial abuses.

The charge places Omar’s congressional activities and ties to Somalia under renewed scrutiny, with Mohamed accusing an American lawmaker of passing protected information to foreign officials.

Accusation Resurfaces Alongside “Foreign Agent” Charge

On Sunday, the Republic of Somaliland account on X revived the controversy, accusing Omar of pressing Somali leaders to move against Somaliland.

“She served on that same [House Foreign Affairs] committee and pressed Somalian leaders to act against Somaliland before relations between the Republic of Somaliland and the United States grows stronger,” the account wrote.

“Months later on 6 February 2023, the Las Anod conflict erupted.

“Hundreds were killed and thousands displaced in a move that sought to destabilize Somaliland — but failed.

“This is how a foreign agent operates.”
