WA Gov Calls On National Guard to ‘Protect Ballots’ After DOJ IDs Illegal Voters
by
There’s a pretty clear use for the National Guard and this isn’t it.
Here are some things you may want to call up the National Guard for and one thing you don’t normally call up the National Guard for.
- A natural disaster
- Major riots
- An election
And yet after the DOJ identified illegal voters in Washington state, Gov. Robert Ferguson decided to invoke the National Guard.
Gov. Bob Ferguson on Tuesday criticized a federal request that Washington state set aside the ballots of more than 400 voters over citizenship concerns, calling the move “disappointing” a week before Election Day.
Department of Homeland Security investigators claim, with a “high level of confidence,” that the voters in question are not U.S. citizens, according to a letter sent to Washington Secretary of State Steve Hobbs.
Asked whether the state would sequester the ballots, Ferguson pointed to the Secretary of State’s response.
“If due process is followed and there are legitimate concerns, of course we take that seriously as a state,” said Ferguson.
The first indicator that they’re not taking it seriously is that they said that they’re taking it seriously.
But Gov. Ferguson is certainly taking it seriously in a whole other way.
To guard against physical attacks on the election system, such as the 2024 attempt to blow up ballot boxes in Clark County and Portland, Ferguson signed an executive order offering National Guard members, in plain clothes and unarmed, as security backup for county elections departments.
National Guard personnel in plain clothes? What police state nonsense is this.
Someone set three ballot drop boxes on fire back in 2024 and destroyed a few hundred ballots. Not sure how unarmed Guardsmen in civies are supposed to stop this.
There’s a pretty clear use for the National Guard and this isn’t it. Guardsmen should be uniformed and the same people who kept arguing that the National Guard was not supposed to be performing law enforcement functions are fine with it.
I don’t see how they’re supposed to dissuade any similar incidents as 2024. But I would suspect the use case here is about interfering with the DOJ and any effort to seize illegal ballots.
He added that studies show voting fraud in Washington state and nationwide is “quite rare.”
“We see what’s going on nationally with the Trump administration, and I find it really disappointing, sort of the attacks on our election system that are going on,” Ferguson said.
The attack on our election system, as always is, is coming from the very people promising to protect it.
