Canadian politician says nurse offered his father euthanasia: ‘I was disgusted’

Conservative MP Bob Zimmer said a nurse offered his dying father euthanasia without his asking while they were waiting for clearance to take him home.
(LifeSiteNews) — A Canadian MP has said that he personally watched a nurse offer euthanasia to his dying father, without him even “asking for it,” noting how he was left “disgusted” by the incident.
“I watched a nurse at our local hospital offer MAID to my dad,” wrote Conservative MP Bob Zimmer in a recent X post.
“He was not asking for it, nor had he asked for it.”
Zimmer said he was trying to get his father, Ernie Zimmer, home, as he was close to death and he “wanted to be at home to be more comfortable.”
“So while we were waiting to be cleared to take him home, a nurse approached us and offered MAID to him,” he said. “I was disgusted.”
Zimmer’s father was in a hospital in British Columbia, and the family was able to get him home to Fort St. John, B.C., where he died.
Canada’s so-called “medical assistance in dying” (“MAID”) program has exploded since the government of former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau legalized it in 2016.
Since then, euthanasia in Canada has become very prevalent. Recent statistics show that the nation recorded more deaths by euthanasia than murders by guns in the United States in 2024.
Zimmer said that all of the warnings about euthanasia that have been debated in the House of Commons have been justified, noting Conservatives had warned about what would “happen with the change in legislation and the Liberals said would never happen.”
“Now Canada has the terrible record of having the most MAID deaths in the world, at 16,499 in one year alone,” he warned.
