Does the Right to Self-Defense Come from Government?

Does the Right to Self-Defense Come from Government? NRA chief lobbyist Chris Cox recently wrote a column in U.S. News & World Report describing the right to keep and bear arms as the “most fundamental of human rights,” adding that the right to self-defense “is not bestowed on [us] by government.” Cox’s message rings of Thomas Jefferson, who famously wrote that men “are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights,” and it reminds readers that some rights not only transcend but actually supersede government regulation. And this is… View Article

Gun rights rally to break century-long Alamo tradition

Gun rights rally to break century-long Alamo tradition This is how to make another gun rally in gun-friendly Texas stand out: Tell everybody to bring their rifles and shotguns to the Alamo, the state’s most popular attraction, which sits downtown in the country’s seventh-largest city. And be sure to invite the state’s gun-friendliest politician, who also happens to hold the keys to the historic site. When the organizers of “Come and Take It San Antonio!” made plans for a display of long guns today, this setting seemed ideal but the event is now drawing attention for breaking a century-long tradition… View Article

Marine’s career in jeopardy for exposing threat

Marine’s career in jeopardy for exposing threat A good Marine is being put through the wringer — with his career now hanging in the balance — for mistakenly sending a threat warning from an unclassified email account, according to supporters. The 2012 warning from Jason Brezler, a Marine Corps reservist and New York City firefighter, told his fellow Marines that a senior Afghan police official was a security risk, including allegations that he sexually abused minors on U.S. bases in Afghanistan. One of the Afghan official’s assistants and purported victims, days later, opened fire and killed three U.S. Marines. But… View Article

California to release thousands of prisoners

High court orders California to release thousands of prisoners On Tuesday, the US Supreme Court rejected an appeal to halt the early release of thousands of California prison inmates by the end of the year. In 2011,  federal judges ruled that the state must improve prison health  conditions. Reducing the number of inmates was included as part  of the process. Since then, California has cut its prison population… View Article

Immigrant Advocates Take Radical Approach

They’re Not Going To Take It Anymore: New Generation Of Immigrant Advocates Take Radical Approach The frustration, say immigration advocates, is reaching a fever pitch. That is why, many say, recent weeks have seen activists use chains and pipes to tie themselves to the tires of buses that carry immigrants slated for deportation to court, block traffic on Capitol Hill and get arrested, surround Tucson police when they targeted two immigrants during a traffic stop, and chain themselves and block the entrance of a federal detention center. More such… View Article
