Denise Roberge – Ihlan Omar

Like the message or not, Denise Roberge’s El Paseo window a ‘strong, gutsy’ move

I think what Ms. Denise Roberge did with her storefront window on El Paseo was the biggest advertising success around. It brought people from both sides of the political spectrum to view her storefront.

Whether I agree with her politics or not I support her First Amendment right of free speech and freedom of expression.

Only a strong, savvy and gutsy woman would do what she did with her storefront.

Ilhan Omar Stonewalling Hometown Paper On Marriage Controversy

Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar has been uncooperative with her hometown paper’s efforts to get to the bottom of accusations that she committed marriage fraud, the paper’s political editor said.

Omar’s brief congressional career has been dogged by accusations — which she has denied — that she married a male relative, possibly her brother. Omar and her current husband, Ahmed Hirsi, filed joint tax returns in 2014 and 2015 while Omar was married to another man, Ahmed Elmi. Public records indicate that Omar was living with Hirsi throughout her marriage to Elmi.

Is Ilhan Omar a Communist?

That brings me to Ilhan Omar, stalwart member of the Democratic Socialists of America, which describes itself as “the largest socialist organization in the United States.” Read: “socialist,” even as self-described “democratic socialists” insist that they eschew the label “socialist.”

Speaking of which, what is Ilhan Omar? How far left is she?

The short answer is we genuinely don’t know — yet. The more we learn, however, the more we beg the question. It would be valuable if a liberal reporter, in a friendly interview, sat down for a deep dive into what she believes. My sense over only the last few months is that Ilhan Omar may be the most extreme-left member of Congress

It’s about time we listened to Trump supporters’ warnings about Mexico

Mexico has been riddled with killing sprees that are fueled by drug cartels, human smuggling and deep government corruption.

And there is no end in sight. Bloomberg reported that murders in Mexico spiked nearly 10% in the first three months of the year. These deaths surged to 8,493 from January through March, compared with 7,750 a year earlier, according to the news outlet.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador rose to power promising to boost living conditions, curb violence and end government corruption that has left most murders unsolved.

Seattle-based restaurant chain blames high minimum wage for bankruptcy

Businesses fail all the time for all kinds of reasons. But when Restaurants Unlimited filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last week, people noticed. The company owns 35 upscale restaurants located primarily on the West Coast, including seven in Seattle.

In its filing, it declared, “Over the last three years, the company’s profitability has been significantly impacted by progressive wage laws along the Pacific coast…the result was to increase the company’s annual wage expenses by an aggregate of $10.6 million.”

It went on to cite three examples where minimum wages have risen dramatically over the last three years. Portland now requires $12.50 an hour, an increase of 35 percent. San Francisco’s minimum wage has climbed 41 percent to $15.59 per hour. And Seattle, the first city with a $15 minimum wage, now forces large employers to pay at least $16 an hour.
