Rome Marchers Demand Remigration as Italy’s Immigration Debate Intensifies
Several thousand demonstrators marched in Rome behind a “Remigration and Reconquest” campaign calling for stricter borders, illegal migrant returns and a broader reversal of Italy’s mass-immigration model.
Organizers said the initiative has collected about 50,000 signatures in support of the proposal, while other reports cited more than 150,000. Supporters said the campaign has reached the threshold needed to force Italy’s political class to address the issue directly.
The proposal includes incentives for voluntary returns, deportations of illegal immigrants and stricter integration requirements for foreign nationals seeking to remain in Italy. Its supporters argue those steps are necessary to strengthen border sovereignty, restore public order and respond to public frustration over the effects of large-scale migration.
The march moved through the capital under the “Remigration and Reconquest” banner. Demonstrators said immigration policy should not be limited to preventing illegal crossings, but should also address the long-term consequences of mass settlement, including social cohesion, public safety, wages, housing and national continuity.
