Liberals won despite Justin Trudeau, who is as arrogant as ever

Canadians handed Justin Trudeau a minority government parachute to soften the landing of what was otherwise a free fall of the Liberal party, their caucus reduced by 20 seats and a popular vote clocking of roughly 33 per cent, a smaller share than the Conservatives. So about two-thirds of country did not swing for the Grits.

Rather than riding the Jarry metro Tuesday in Montreal for selfie-poses and to thank constituents, which is apparently now a thing, Trudeau should have been straphanging on the Toronto subway, Liberals sweeping the 416 seats, freezing out the NDP when clearly we’re a lefty citadel. Strategic voting, I guess.

Why Conservatives Find Life More Meaningful Than Liberals

Polarization has become so severe that what news you read, who you marry, and what kind of car you drive is connected to your political persuasion. And so is, it turns out, whether you see the point in literally anything.

In a new study of people in 16 different countries, researchers from the University of Southern California and the University of Utah found that conservatives reported feeling there was more meaning and purpose in life than liberals did.

The authors performed a series of five studies, all of which replicated each others’ findings. Conservatives found life more meaningful in data sets from several countries in the early 1980s, in a nationally representative data set of Americans in 2007, and in data collected between 2010 and 2017. In other data sets, conservatives found greater meaning in life when the measures were taken at the end of every day for two weeks. They were also more likely to feel that their lives had “a clear sense of purpose” at any given moment.

Knoxville Council OKs gun show ban, mayor says she won’t allow new gun show bookings

he Knoxville City Council formally asked the mayor to look into banning gun shows at city-owned spaces Tuesday night in an easy, 8-1 vote.

Mayor Madeline Rogero said she supported the resolution and, as a matter of policy, would not allow any new gun show bookings for city-owned property.

Moving forward, she said the next mayor would have to recommit to the ban. Both mayoral candidates, Eddie Mannis and Indya Kincannon, have said they support the resolution. Rogero leaves office in December.

Disgraced Prince Andrew faces uncertain role in future

Prince Andrew is scaling back travel and facing an uncertain future as he steps away from the royal role he has embraced for his entire adult life.

The latest blow came Friday afternoon when the board of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra announced that it was cutting ties to Andrew, who had been its patron.

The 59-year-old prince has suffered numerous setbacks in the six days since the broadcast of a disastrous TV interview from Buckingham Palace during which he defended his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Trump campaign bans Bloomberg News from events over ‘troubling and wrong’ decision

President Trump’s 2020 reelection campaign will no longer issue credentials to Bloomberg News because of its decision to investigate Trump, but not his political opponents, campaign manager Brad Parscale announced Monday.

Bloomberg News announced last week that it wouldn’t investigate its namesake owner, Mike Bloomberg, while he runs for president, or any other Democratic presidential candidate for that matter, but would continue to investigate President Trump.
