The Trump Manufacturing Jobs Boom: 10 Times Obama’s Over 21 Months

The Great Recession officially ended in June 2009, six months into former President Obama’s first term. The economy continued to shed jobs until the following March. Manufacturing was particularly hard hit, with almost 2.3 million manufacturing jobs—some 1 in 6—lost between January 2008 and March 2010.

As is the case during recoveries, jobs bounced back, with seasonally adjusted nonfarm employment expanding almost 12% from March 2010 until January 2017, when President Obama handed over the presidency to Donald Trump.

Unemployment rate falls to 3.7 percent, lowest since 1969

The unemployment rate fell to 3.7 percent in September, its lowest level since 1969, the Labor Department reported Friday. President Trump quickly celebrated the news on Twitter, and many forecasters predict the jobless rate will decline even more in the months to come.

While economists cheered the unemployment rate, only 134,000 jobs were created in September, which was well below the consensus prediction of 180,000. Hurricane Florence, which brought catastrophic flooding to the Carolinas, probably prevented some businesses from bringing new workers on. Hiring was especially weak in retail and the leisure and hospitality sectors.

Democratic Socialism: Who Knew That ‘Free’ Could Cost So Much?

Socialism: Since the Democratic Party took a turn for the worse toward so-called democratic socialism, the party’s leading lights have laid the promises on pretty thick. Free Medicare for all! Guaranteed income! Guaranteed jobs! Subsidized housing! Free college! Universal pre-school! Wow, and all for free.

Well, not exactly. In a devastating piece that appeared on the left-of-center web site Vox (to its credit), Manhattan Institute fellow Brian Riedl went through the simple math of what free actually costs. It’s a lot.

Democrats embracing socialism is dangerous for America

Their latest clarion call is the idea of “Democratic Socialism.” Socialism by any other name is still socialism, and trying to infiltrate it into our modern political process and system of government is dangerous.

Drunk WestJet passenger who caused plane to reroute ordered to pay $21,000 for the fuel

The U.K. man whose “absolutely disgusting” drunken behaviour caused a WestJet flight to turn around and land back in Calgary must pay the airline $21,260.68 — the cost of the wasted fuel.

David Stephen Young, 44, pleaded guilty last week to charges under the Aeronautics Act and Criminal Code of failing to comply with safety instructions and resisting arrest.

“One has to feel some sympathy for the accused but as in all criminal legislation, it is trite to say that the voice of the victim must also be heard,” said provincial court Judge Brian Stevenson in delivering his sentencing decision.
