What is the diversity visa lottery?

President Trump

has said he’ll only sign an immigration deal that cancels the diversity visa lottery program, which allows people from countries with very low immigration rates to the United States to apply for the opportunity to apply for a visa.

The U.S. receives 10 to 20 million applications each year from countries with low rates of migration to the United States. Of those applicants, 100,000 are chosen at random to be selected for a pool of 50,000 green cards.

The people who win the lottery are vetted in the same way as immigrants applying for work, travel or student visas, with successful applicants getting legal permanent residency.

Merit-Based Citizenship, End To Visa Lottery: Trump’s Immigration Plan

Trump proposed four pillars of immigration reform that include a pathway to citizenship for almost 1.8 million illegal immigrants — known as ‘Dreamers’ — who were brought in the US by their parents at a young age, border security, ending the visa lottery programme and limiting family-based migration.

“Tonight I am extending an open hand to work with members of both parties, Democrats and Republicans, to protect our citizens, of every background, colour and creed,” President Trump said.

Authorities say a good Samaritan with a handgun thwarted a savage attack on a police officer in Utah.

Derek Meyer told Salt Lake City Fox affiliate KSTU-TV that he was driving on Main Street in Springville, about 50 miles from Salt Lake City, when he spotted police lights — and a man walloping a police officer.

The incident happened about 2 p.m. on Friday, police said. An officer on patrol saw a pair of feet dangling out of a bin for Tabitha’s Way, a food pantry that hosts a clothing recycling program.

Good Guy With A Gun Saves Mother And Daughter Who Were Being Attacked

Law enforcement officials in New Mexico are praising a man who stepped in to save a mother and her daughter after the woman’s estranged husband rammed her car and began shooting at them.

Albuquerque Police say that 66-year-old Qian Ming intentionally crashed into the woman’s vehicle on Sunday and then opened fire, hitting his daughter in the shoulder, KRQE News 13 reported.

Officer Simon Drobik says that a 34-year-old good Samaritan, who is not being named since he has not been charged with a crime, saw the attack unfold and intervened.

The gunshot that struck state trooper Ed Andersson was “one in a thousand,” he said.
“A half inch to my right it would have missed me,” the Arizona State Police officer told CNN. “A few inches to my left, it would have hit my vest.”
But the bullet found Andersson’s right shoulder — paralyzing it and preventing him from reaching his own weapon.

Good Samaritan comes to aid of police officer under attack

Eugene DeRose was driving by when he spotted a police officer in a fight with a much bigger man.

“I didn’t even think, I just reacted,” DeRose said. “Because I knew if I didn’t do anything at that moment, it would have become a lot worse. I was running on pure adrenaline.”

DeRose was driving home from work last Wednesday when he saw a man attacking an Edmonton police officer near the corner of 111th Avenue and 95A Street.

Democrats stand for nothing

Majority of Americans Say Democrats Stand For Nothing Except Being Against Trump

Jon Karl of ABC News announced the findings of a new poll this weekend. A majority of Americans think the Democrats don’t stand for anything except being against Trump.

In the video below, Karl says:

ABC News’ Jonathan Karl says new ABC News/Washington Post poll shows majority of the country believes that “Democrats stand for nothing more than opposing” Donald J. Trump. “That’s a problem for Democrats…they have to stand for something beyond simply opposing the president.”
