Getting Liberal Voters to Love ‘American Sniper’

Clint Eastwood’s Oscars Challenge: Getting Liberal Voters to Love ‘American Sniper’ Deep into 2004, as the Oscar race was coalescing around just a few pictures, Martin Scorsese’s The Aviator looked like the film to beat. It was classy, it was a period piece, it had a roster of top-notch performances, it was directed by America’s most acclaimed filmmaker and its subject matter was near and dear to Hollywood’s heart: Howard Hughes. Sure, Alexander Payne’s Sideways and the biopic Ray looked like they might give it a run for its money. But both were small in scale, unlikely to appeal… View Article

Is Obama Trying to Cause Civil Unrest in America?

Is Obama Trying to Cause Civil Unrest in America? Administration chooses to announce controversial amnesty plan at same time as Officer Wilson verdict The timing is so senseless that it almost looks like Obama is deliberately trying to stir up domestic disorder. Police departments across the country are preparing for riots in the aftermath of what many expect to be the acquittal of Officer Darren Wilson, a decision expected to be made within the next 36 hours. Meanwhile, Oklahoma Sen. Tom Coburn warns that Obama’s plan to legalize as many as 5 million undocumented immigrants, set to be announced tonight,… View Article

Conservative government to study privatization of some police services

Conservative government to study privatization of some police services Questions of accountability surround the growing business of private security services as Conservatives commission academic study. The Conservative government is examining the “opportunities and challenges” involved in privatizing some policing services in Canada. Public Safety officials are commissioning a study to examine the growing industry of private policing in Canada and abroad, and to outline the role private security firms could play in traditional public policing roles. The study appears to be primarily motivated by the cost of and increased pressure on public forces, despite historically low crime rates. “Policing has… View Article

Gabby Giffords’ Gun Control Group We’ll Be Back In 2016

Gabby Giffords’ Gun Control Group We’ll Be Back In 2016 After spending $10.6 million in the Nov. 4 elections and “barely [winning] half its contests,” Gabby Giffords’ gun control group—Americans For Responsible Solutions (ARS)—says it will be back in 2016. But Politico describes this as “a steep task,” and that may be putting it mildly. Think about it—ARS endorsed 18 total candidates in House, Senatorial, and gubernatorial races. Of these, they claim nine wins yet among the high-profile races in which they supported pro-gun control Senators, ARS came up nearly empty-handed. They supported Senators Mark Udall (D-CO) and Kay Hagan… View Article

NBC Questions Own Poll Showing Latinos Oppose Amnesty

NBC Questions Own Poll Showing Latinos Oppose Amnesty A new NBC/WSJ poll shows that 37 percent of Latinos actually oppose President Obama’s expected executive amnesty while only 43 percent support it. That was enough for NBC’s Mark Murray to add a disclaimer to the results, pointing out the small sample size of Latinos in the poll. “The sample size here is small (just 110 Latino respondents), so the numbers have a high margin of error,” he wrote in an official report on the poll. Surprisingly, only 63 percent of Democrats support Obama’s decision while only 11 percent of Republicans support… View Article
