House of Representatives Votes to End Obama’s ‘Operation Choke Point’

by Michael Patrick Leahy The House of Representatives passed the Financial Institution Customer Protection Act on Thursday by a vote of 250-169. The primary purpose of the bill is to end the Obama administration’s controversial “Operation Choke Point,” a secretive effort launched in 2013 to “choke off” legitimate businesses through the use of the federal government’s regulatory power over banks and third party payment processors. All 240 Republicans who cast ballots voted in favor of the bill. They were joined by 10 Democrats. “After years of remaining steadfast in bringing an end to Operation Choke Point, I am proud...

Syrian rebels are losing Aleppo and perhaps also the war

By Liz Sly and Zakaria Zakaria February 4 at 9:02 PM Follow @LizSly GAZIANTEP, Turkey — Syrian rebels battled for their survival in and around Syria’s northern city of Aleppo on Thursday after a blitz of Russian airstrikes helped government loyalists sever a vital supply route and sent a new surge of refugees fleeing toward the border with Turkey. The Russian-backed onslaught against rebel positions in Aleppo coincided with the failure of peace talks in Geneva, and helped reinforce opposition suspicions that Russia and its Syrian government allies are more interested in securing a military victory over the rebels...

Closing In: Russia, Iran, Assad “Encircle” Syria’s Largest City As Peace Talks Collapse In Geneva

Submitted by Tyler Durden Back in October, we previewed the “promised” battle for Aleppo, Syria’s largest city prior to the war. By the time Russia began constructing an air base at Latakia, the city – which is immensely important both from a strategic and psychological perspective – was controlled by a hodgepodge of rebels and militants including al-Qaeda, the Free Syrian Army, and ISIS. As we noted four months ago, if Russia and Hezbollah manage to recapture the city, it would effectively restore the Assad government in Syria even if the east of the country is still controlled by Islamic State....

Obama’s Open Door Policy Allows Gangs to Slip Over Border, Rising Murder Rates

by Warner Todd Huston An immigration expert has testified that Obama’s loose border security policy has become an avenue for violent gangs — like MS-13 and the 18th Street Gang — to send foot soldiers across the border, causing a major rise in murder rates in cities across the country. Jessica Vaughan, the policy director for the Center for Immigration Studies, testified before a House hearing on the border surge and said Obama’s open-door policy has caused a hike in both murder and violent crime. Testifying before the February 4 hearing, Vaughan said, “Established gangs have been able to transfer… View Article

Obama Uses Mosque Speech To Subordinate All Religion To The State

by Neil Munro When President Barack Obama visited a fundamentalist mosque in Baltimore on Feb. 3, he flattered his Islamic audience, smiled cheerfully and then rhetorically flattened the constitutional and cultural walls that protect competing religious beliefs from the progressively expanding federal government. Robert Spencer, an expert on Islamic ideology and a best-selling author, says Obama’s condescending comments about Islam and all religions reveal his corporatist view of society, in which all elements of society — religion, industry, unions, family, education — are subordinated and coordinated by government officials. For Obama, rival churches are “just social-work centers, that’s all, he… View Article

Fourth Circuit Rules Against Maryland ‘Assault Weapons’ Ban

by AWR Hawkins The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit sent Maryland’s “assault weapons” ban back to a lower court today for further review because it “significantly burdens the exercise of the right to arm oneself at home.” The Washington Post reports that the “law bans more than 45 types of assault weapons and clips that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition.” Maryland Attorney General Brian E. Frosh (D)–who supports the “assault weapons” ban–criticized the ruling, saying that “the majority” on the 4th Circuit “got it wrong.” Frosh added, “I think it’s just common sense that the Second… View Article

Six Dead in Chicago Mass Stabbing

by AWR Hawkins On February 4, Chicago Police Department officers discovered five adults and one child stabbed to death in a home in Chicago’s Gage Park. Police found the bodies around 1:05 PM Thursday. According to the Chicago Tribune, the CPD sent officers to investigate after someone called police to say a “co-worker had not shown up for work Wednesday or Thursday.” When officers arrived to check on the missing co-worker, they looked through a window and saw “what they believed to be a body” inside the house. Upon entering the house, they found five adults and “a child 11… View Article

Report: MS-13 foot soldiers use ‘surge’ to cross border, ‘colonize new criminal territory’

By Paul Bedard (@SecretsBedard) Criminal networks with Latin American roots, such as MS-13 and the 18th Street gang, are using the administration’s open-door policy at the border to slip in recruits that are causing a huge spike in murder and violence throughout the nation, according to an immigration expert. Testifying Thursday at a House hearing on the border surge of young Latinos, the expert said, “Established gangs have been able to transfer an unknown number of experienced foot soldiers from Central America to help colonize new criminal territory in the United States.” Jessica M. Vaughan, the policy director for...
