Only in New Jersey: Bill would ban motorists from drinking coffee and driving

by Steph Solis New Jersey already draws ire for not letting drivers pump their own gas. But the state might ban them from having a cup of coffee behind the wheel too. A bill under consideration in the state Legislature calls to prohibit “any activity unrelated to the actual operation of a motor vehicle in a manner that interferes with the safe operation of the vehicle on a public road or highway.” That means no cup of coffee for those sitting in traffic, no munching on that breakfast burrito, no time to groom. (No, the law does not target coffee verbatim.) The...

Racism, not Refugee Rape, Is Causing Agitation in Twin Falls, Claims Local TV Outlet

by Michael Patrick Leahy White racism, not a June 2 videotaped rape by refugees from strife-torn tribal cultures, is causing the growing civic protest in Twin Falls, Idaho, according to KMVT, the main local TV station. The pitch was delivered with the help of Nancy Taylor, who is a local advocate for greater immigration. I believe that there is a very small group in Twin Falls, very small and vocal, who, for lack of a better word, are racist … A little girl was assaulted, and just because people of color are involved, it becomes an issue. Unfortunately, children in...

Princeton Professor Shows How Easy It Is To Hack An Election In Just 7 Minutes

By Claire Bernish A professor from Princeton University and a graduate student just proved electronic voting machines in the U.S. remain astonishingly vulnerable to hackers — and they did it in under eight minutes. In fact, Professor Andrew Appel and grad student Alex Halderman took just seven minutes to break into the authentic Sequoia AVC Advantage electronic voting machine Appel purchased for $82 online — one of the oldest models, but still in use Louisiana, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Virginia, Politico reported. After Halderman picked the hulking, 250-pound machine’s lock in seven seconds flat, Appel wrested its four ROM...

Audit Reveals The Pentagon Doesn’t Know Where $6.5 Trillion Dollars Has Gone

By Jay Syrmopoulos A new Department of Defense Inspector General’s report, released last week, has left Americans stunned at the jaw-dropping lack of accountability and oversight. The glaring report revealed the Pentagon couldn’t account for $6.5 trillion dollars worth of Army general fund transactions and data, according to a report by the Fiscal Times. The Pentagon, which has been notoriously lax in its accounting practices, has never completed an audit, would reveal how the agency has specifically spent the trillions of dollars allocated for wars, equipment, personnel, housing, healthcare and procurements allotted to them by Congress. Beginning in 1996...

Liam Casey, A grieving northern Ontario woman says she just wants the rest of her slain son’s remains returned to her. The Worldwide Trumpian Majority: Lessons from Brexit, Britain, and the United States

by James P. Pinkerton 1. Lessons from Brexit In Part One of this series, we chronicled a tale of two cities: the populist-nationalist Republicans in Cleveland, and the establishment—some would say elitist—Democrats in Philadelphia. Yes, it’s obvious that there’s a gap between the two, maybe more like a chasm. So now we will begin to examine the divide between nationalism and globalism, focusing on the nationalist eruption in the United Kingdom. But perhaps the reader has noticed the title of this series: “The Emerging Trumpian Majority.” And one might ask: How can we have an “Emerging Trumpian Majority” if,...

Cuba blames U.S. open door for migrant surge

By Marc Frank By Marc Frank HAVANA (Reuters) – Havana on Sunday blamed Washington for a surge of Cubans trying to reach the United States by land and sea, accusing the Obama administration of encouraging illegal and unsafe immigration. Tens of thousands of Cubans over the last two years have flocked to the U.S.-Mexican border and taken to the sea in hopes of reaching Florida, fearing a growing detente between the Cold War foes will lead to a change in U.S. policy. Under a 1960s law, the Cuban Adjustment Act, the Communist-run country’s citizens are treated as legal immigrants...
