GM wheat discovered contaminating wheat fields in Montana

GM wheat discovered contaminating wheat fields in Montana A field of unregulated genetically modified (GM) wheat has been discovered growing wild in Montana, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced. No varieties of GM wheat have been approved for cultivation in the United States, but this is the second plot discovered growing on its own in less than a year and a half. Like the last such discovery, the new discovery in Montana may have a serious impact on the U.S. wheat export market. Much of the wheat grown in the United States is exported to Asian countries such… View Article

Monsanto and Ukraine

Monsanto and Ukraine Finally, a little-known aspect of the crisis in Ukraine is receiving some international attention. On July 28, the California-based Oakland Institute released a report revealing that the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), under terms of their $17 billion loan to Ukraine, would open that country to genetically-modified (GM) crops and genetically-modified organisms (GMOs) in agriculture. The report is entitled “Walking on the West Side: the World Bank and the IMF in the Ukraine Conflict.” [1] In late 2013, the then president of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych, rejected a European Union association agreement tied to the… View Article

Will Monsanto Destroy Another Crop? The U.S. wheat industry was nearly brought to its knees after the discovery of a genetically modified strain Monsanto  (NYSE: MON  )  had tested years ago was inexplicably found growing in an Oregon farmer’s field. Because most of the rest of the world rejects GM wheat and the wheat from the Pacific Northwest is mostly targeted for export, the ramifications of the discovery were massive. Now it’s deja vu all over again. A Washington State farmer had his alfalfa crop rejected by a broker after it tested positive for the presence of genetic modification. The implications for… View Article

Genetic chains: Alarming new study of Monsanto feed on pigs

UK Environment officials praise GMO crops as ‘safer than conventional’ ones, but a recent study reveals more sobering evidence that the world urgently needs to ask fundamental safety questions about genetic engineering of the human food chain. The first long term study of the effects on inner organs from a diet of Monsanto GMO maize and GMO soya has just been released. The results are shocking and validate the September 2012 long-term study by Prof. Gilles-Eric Seralini of the effects on rats of a diet of GMO Maize. Despite the fact that feeding pigs and cattle and other animals… View Article
