FIPA Bad for Canada

It has been more than a year since the Harper government cabinet was in a legal position to ratify the Canada-China investment treaty. Thank goodness that step has not yet been taken. It is the largest threat currently hanging over Canadians’ ability to chart our own course, whether in environmental protection, labour laws or any aspect of municipal, provincial or federal rule-making. The Canada-China Foreign Investment Protection and Promotion Agreement, commonly known as FIPA, is the most significant investor-state agreement signed by Canada since NAFTA…. View Article

Alberta government poised to ram through two new labour bills

Unions rally as Alberta government poised to ram through two new labour bills Tensions between the Redford government and Alberta’s biggest union ignited into open warfare Wednesday as the province pushed ahead new legislation to compel a pay settlement and impose heavy penalties for illegal strikes. Guy Smith, president of the Alberta Union of… View Article

Conservatives were spanked in Monday’s byelections

Andrew Coyne: There’s no spinning it — the Conservatives were spanked in Monday’s byelections If you were determined to be obtuse about it, you could look at the results of Monday’s byelections and say: nothing changed. The Tories held onto their two seats in the West, the Liberals held onto theirs in Ontario and Quebec. Move along folks, no story here. You could do this, as I say, only if you took extravagant care to ignore everything else that happened that night: If you focused myopically on… View Article

Obama Approval Sinks to 38%

Obama Approval Sinks to 38% more bad news for President Obama buried under a bunch of Reuters happy talk about Iran. In its latest poll, Reuters found Obama’s approval rating underwater by a full 18 points. Only 38% approve of the job the president is doing, while 56% disapprove. The Reuters happy talk surrounded another Reuters poll that showed 44% approve of Obama’s deal with Iran, while only 22% disapprove. If the best news the media can muster for Obama is a 44% approval rating on something, it tells you just how bad of shape he is in. The Reuters… View Article

Propaganda Leftwing Press – Socialist Trudeau’s

Propaganda Leftwing Press – Socialist Trudeau’s The world of instant News availability for Canadians from a variety of sources, including the internet, CTV, Global, etc., why do we need a Government owned (read taxpayer subsidized) expensive CBC? The CBC can be successfully privatized (CBC English, CBC French) to an array of qualified Canadian business groups such as Rogers, TELUS, Pattison and others, similar to the Liberal Government’s smart privatization of Petro Canada and Air Canada. The Billions of dollars earned from the privatization of the CBC could pay down our debt and the $100,000,000 sucked from Tax Payers every 30… View Article

Banning Doorknobs – Rampant Stupidity

Banning Doorknobs – Rampant Stupidity Doorknobs have been banned in Vancouver, Canada and many residents are up in arms over the new nanny-state rule. Starting next March, the city will be requiring the installation of lever handles on all new building doors instead of round doorknobs. The City Council passed the new code in September in an attempt to make the city more accessible to the disabled and elderly. The change was part of the council’s ‘age-friendly action plan’. In addition to the door handle requirement, the city has passed similar building requirements such as wider door frames, faucet levers… View Article
