by Virginia Hale Plans to build a new police station in Rinkeby have been put on hold because construction companies fear for the safety of their workforce in the migrant-dominated Stockholm suburb. The city earmarked the site of a former nursing home as the location for the new station. But construction companies failed to bid for the project, not wanting to risk having to work in a neighbourhood notorious for gang and gun crime. “It’s too dangerous to build a police station in the area,” SVT News was told by a number of police officers who wanted to remain...

by Jack Montgomery Geert Wilders, the Eurosceptic, anti-mass migration candidate who heads the insurgent Party for Freedom (PVV),  has blasted incumbent head of government Mark Rutte as a “prime minister for foreigners”, urging voters to put the Netherlands first in a fiery debate. “I say to all Dutch people at home, when you go to vote on Wednesday, if you want to put our country up for sale and ensure that our money goes to asylum seekers, Brussels and Africa instead of our own people, vote for the VVD” – the political party which Rutte heads. Wilders also called on...

Trump Budget Could Cut Federal Bureaucrats by Highest Levels Since End of World War Two

by Ben Kew President Donald Trump will unveil his budget proposals later this week, which is likely to include the cutting of government bureaucrats at levels not seen since the end of the Second World War, according to budget analysts. The budget, which will be released on Thursday, is expected to drastically decrease the size of government, cutting jobs in sectors such as housing, foreign aid, and environmental protection — and instead prioritizing areas such as the military and homeland security. According to an analysis conducted by Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody’s Analytics, Trump’s plans could reduce employment in the capital… View Article

queer (v.) Look up queer at Dictionary.com “to spoil, ruin,” 1812, from queer (adj.). Related: Queered; queering. Earlier it meant “to puzzle, ridicule, cheat” (1790). Facebook’s “fake news” crackdown is a deliberate attempt to destroy the independent media

by Thomas Dishaw In an attempt to fulfill their promise made back in December to crack down on so-called “fake news,” Facebook has begun to mark content they deem unsubstantiated as “disputed.” Tech new website Recode reports that these stories will now contain a message saying that the selected article has been disputed by its fact checkers, and then subsequently link to articles by Politifact and Snopes. According to Breitbart, in order to flag a story as fake, a user must report it, or Facebook’s algorithm must detect it. The story will then be sent on to at least...

This Elementary School Abolished Homework, and the Results Were Astonishing

By Annie Holmquist Late last summer, Texas teacher Brandy Young made internet waves when she sent a note about homework to the parents of her students. Instead of the normal spend-30-minutes-a-day-on-homework command that parents normally hear, Mrs. Young’s note informed them that she would not be giving homework at all. Instead, she asked families to spend more time reading, eating dinner, and playing outside, all factors which research has found to contribute to greater student success. The Internet Cheers This Teacher’s New Homework Policy But Mrs. Young was not the only educator to get on the no homework bandwagon. An entire...
