Tax: 1. a sum of money demanded by a government for its support or for specific facilities or services, levied upon incomes, property, sales, etc. 2. a burdensome charge, obligation, duty, or demand. Notice how it is defined as ‘demanded by a government’ and a ‘burdensome charge’ Burdensome: 1. oppressively heavy; onerous. 2. stressing; troublesome. So apparently by common english definition tax is defined as a sum of money demanded by a government that is oppressively heavy and it causes stress.
