Federal agents descended on Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Washington, D.C., home before sunrise Monday, executing a court-authorized search warrant as part of a criminal investigation reportedly targeting the Minnesota congresswoman’s immigration history.
The operation began around 6 a.m., with multiple Homeland Security Investigations agents spotted outside the residence wearing jackets identifying their federal agency, according to Fox News Digital.
Two sources familiar with the investigation told the outlet that authorities are examining immigration paperwork completed by Omar’s late father when she was a child, raising fresh questions about allegations that have followed the progressive Democrat for years.
The Department of Justice confirmed that federal investigators carried out the search under a warrant authorized by a judge.
“Today in the Washington, D.C., area, Homeland Security Investigations executed a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the Department of Justice. This enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal investigation,” a DOJ spokesperson told Fox News Digital.
The department subsequently confirmed that the investigation is criminal in nature, although officials have not publicly disclosed the specific allegations being examined.
The early morning operation marks a significant development for Omar, one of President Donald Trump’s most outspoken Democratic critics and a prominent member of the progressive congressional group known as the Squad.
