Gun Owners of America Claims Victory over ‘Bloomberg’s Billions’

by AWR Hawkins Gun owners in Idaho and West Virginia can now carry their weapons concealed without a permit, allowing Gun Owners of America (GOA) to claim victory over “Bloomberg’s billions.” “For all the talk about Bloomberg’s billions, Daddy Warbucks had his lunch handed to him in Idaho and West Virginia,” GOA’s Erich Pratt told Breitbart News. “Kudos to grassroots gun owners in both states for picking up their phones and calling their legislators. Gun rights activists demonstrated once again that when politicians feel the heat, they see the light.” Breitbart News previously reported that the West Virginia House overrode Governor Earl… View Article

Concealed Carry Surging: TX to Surpass 1 Million License Holders

by AWR Hawkins A “140 percent” increase in concealed handgun license applications puts Texas on the verge of surpassing a total of one million license holders in the state. Those are one million people who can carry a handgun concealed or, if they choose, carry it openly under the Open Carry law Governor Greg Abbott (R) signed into law last year. According to CBS-DFW, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) “received 136,000 License to Carry applications” from December 2015 through February 2016. That “140 percent jump in applications” when compared to the “57,000 [applications submitted] over that period last… View Article

The convention will be held in Quicken Loans Arena, which currently bars guns from the premises. The petition–which can be found at Change.Org–calls on Quicken Loans Arena to suspend “their policy preventing the open carry of firearms on the premises of the arena from July 18-21, 2016 to coincide with the Republican National Convention.” The petition also asks the NRA to join the fray by issuing “an immediate condemnation… View Article

Legislation to Arm Teachers Moving Through Tennessee House

by AWR Hawkins On Wednesday the Tennessee House Civil Justice Subcommittee passed legislation allowing teachers and staff to carry guns at school for self-defense. The legislation–House Bill 1751–is sponsored by representative David Byrd (R-Waynesboro). According to WKRN-TV, HB 1751 is intended to “give school systems in distressed rural counties the ability to allow certain staff and volunteers to carry guns at school and school-sponsored activities, like athletic events.” Byrd said the need for armed teachers is exemplified by his home county–Wayne County–where there are insufficient funds to pay for School Resource Officers. In lieu of such officers, Byrd believes teachers and… View Article

Malcolm Gladwell Gun Control Won’t Work, So We Need More Gun Control

by AWR Hawkins Liberal advocate Malcolm Gladwell recently admitted that more gun control will not stop school shootings and then immediately suggested its ineffectiveness should not undermine the liberals’ push for more of it. Gladwell is an author and also writes for New Yorker magazine. According to Newsbusters, Gladwell was taking part in a New Yorker podcast when he was asked, “How big a problem is the availability of guns?” Gladwell’s response: Well, uh, you know, uh, those who say that you can solve this problem with gun control are engaging in a fantasy. Um, can you prevent some cases of… View Article

CT Bill Would Confiscate Guns Before Allegations of Abuse Proven

by AWR Hawkins A new bill introduced in Connecticut changes state law so that guns are confiscated from the subject of a protective order the moment the request for the order is filed rather than waiting until the accused has an opportunity to have his or her case heard by a judge. The measure is supported by state senator Mae Flexer (D-Killingly), who says, “The minute a woman comes forward and asks for a temporary restraining order is the most dangerous moment of her life.” Opponents of the measure point out that the request for a protective order on the… View Article

Hillary Clinton’s Proposals Will Eliminate Gun Makers in America

by AWR Hawkins During the March 6 Democrat Debate, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT)warned that Hillary Clinton’s proposals regarding gun manufacturers’ liability would literally eliminate gun makers in America. At the heart of Clinton’s proposals is the reversal of the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA)–an act which shields gun makers from frivolous lawsuits brought by those who want to hold gun makers liable for the illegal use of guns that are legally made and sold. Clinton is campaigning on removing the protections afforded by the PLCAA so that gun makers and gun stores will be a viable target for lawsuits… View Article
