by AWR Hawkins Mexico has “restrictive” gun control — including comprehensive background checks — and a homicide rate over five times higher than the rate in the U.S. According to the University of Sydney’s Gun Policy center, Mexico has “restrictive” gun controls. And while there is “a right to private gun ownership” in Mexico, it rests on a “conditional guarantee” that can “limited by statute law.” Such law means Mexican citizens are limited to owning rifles of .30 caliber and smaller, revolvers of .38 caliber and smaller, and semiautomatics of 9mm and smaller. by AWR Hawkins A recently released Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC) study shows the number of concealed carry permits in the U.S. has surged by 215% under President Obama. The number of permits held nationwide surpasses 14.5 million, which means “6.06% of the total adult population has a permit.” According to CPRC, there was an increase of 1.73 million concealed permits in 2015 alone. This was 100,000 greater than the previous record of 163,000, set in 2014. By: Aaron Bandler A newly-released report suggests that concealed carry permit holders are the most law-abiding citizens in the U.S. The report, written by Crime Prevention Research Center president John Lott, notes that it is “very rare for permit holders to violate the law” and compares the crimes committed by permit holders to police officers and the general population. The police committed 103 crimes per 100,000 officers, while the general population committed 3,813 per 100,000 people, 37 times as much as the police crime rate. And yet, the same metric shows an even lower crime rate for permit holders. “Combining the data for Florida… View Article

by AWR Hawkins July 2016 was the “deadliest July in 10 years” for heavily gun-controlled Chicago: Sixty-five individuals were shot and killed. Moreover, according to the Chicago Tribune, such death figures do not set a new record — they simply tie a record set in 2006, when 65 individuals were killed in the month of July. This brings Chicago’s homicide total to “nearly 400” for the first seven months of 2016 alone. The number of homicides for the whole year of 2015 was 490. Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson tried to abate the feeding frenzy on the July death numbers by pointing out that… View Article
